With a population of around 84,300, Redditch lies just south of the West Midlands urban area and the main route of access to the town is via the A441 trunk road connecting Birmingham to Cookhill. The M42 motorway is also just a short distance away providing access to the South West, London and the East Midlands.
Like many modern towns, Redditch has expanded impressively over the last 40 years with considerable development in the town's central business district including a variety of sporting and cultural attractions. The town used to be the international centre for the needle and fishing tackle industry. At one time Redditch produced a staggering 90 per cent of the world's needles.
